Why Is BNB Price Falling? Binance’s $6.3B Security Incident Triggers Sell-Off

BNB price dropped more than 8% in 24 hours, falling toward $694 amid a sharp market sell-off.
Binance estimates the security incident's total impact at approximately $6.3 billion, with around $3 billion frozen so far.
The exchange says it will cover all losses and has found no evidence of a wallet private-key leak.
BNB price came under heavy selling pressure after a major security incident at Binance triggered fresh concerns about the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange. BNB token fell more than 8% in 24 hours, sliding toward $694 as traders reduced exposure to Binance-linked assets. The exchange has estimated the incident’s total impact at approximately $6.3 billion and says it has frozen around $3 billion so far.
Although Binance has pledged to cover all losses, the scale of the incident has intensified market uncertainty. Can that commitment help BNB recover, or is further downside ahead?
Binance Estimates $6.3 Billion Impact From Security Incident
Binance’s initial investigation suggests that an attacker gained access to a service container after compromising a DevOps engineer’s laptop. The attacker then used that access to submit unauthorized withdrawal transactions.
The exchange has estimated the incident’s total impact at approximately $6.3 billion. However, the investigation remains ongoing, and Binance has not confirmed that the entire estimated amount represents unrecovered stolen funds. The exchange also said it has found no evidence of a wallet private-key leak so far.
Binance reported that approximately $3 billion of the affected assets had been frozen on-chain. It also revoked the affected address authorization, temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals during security checks, and began working with law enforcement and blockchain intelligence partners.
To address concerns over customer losses, Binance said it would use its Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU) and company funds to cover the full amount. The exchange also plans to publish an updated Proof of Reserves report after remediation. While the compensation commitment offers some reassurance, the incident has placed renewed attention on Binance’s security controls and operational resilience.
Why Is BNB Price Falling Despite Binance’s Recovery Measures?
BNB price fell more than 8% over 24 hours, reaching approximately $694 as the security incident triggered selling across the market. The decline also coincided with Bitcoin dropping to a six-week low of $77,646 and Ethereum falling to a two-month low of $2,238.76. This broader weakness added pressure to BNB as traders cut exposure to riskier crypto assets.
The sell-off reflects two overlapping concerns: uncertainty surrounding the Binance incident and weakness across the wider cryptocurrency market. Although the exchange’s pledge to cover losses may limit fears over direct customer exposure, it does not immediately remove concerns about the incident’s scale or its potential effect on confidence.

BNB has shown a modest recovery after the sharp decline, but the rebound needs stronger buying activity to signal a sustained reversal. BNB’s immediate price direction depends on whether buyers can defend the $680–$690 support zone following the steep correction. A sustained hold above this area could allow the token to attempt a recovery toward $720, followed by resistance near $750.
A move above $720 would strengthen the short-term recovery case and bring the $750–$757 region into focus. However, failure to reclaim these levels could leave BNB vulnerable to renewed selling. On the downside, a decisive break below $680 would weaken the recovery setup and expose the token to further losses.
What Could Determine BNB’s Next Move?
Binance’s commitment to cover losses addresses an immediate concern for users, but restoring confidence will require more than a compensation announcement. The market will look for clarity on the final financial impact, progress in recovering or freezing affected assets, and the results of the exchange’s security review.
