Veteran trader Peter Brandt predicts Ethereum could fall to $800 due to a bearish chart pattern.
Contrasting views exist, with Scottie Pippen anticipating an altcoin season and Justin Sun remaining invested in Ethereum's future.
While XRP's fully diluted market cap surpassed Ethereum's, Ethereum still holds a higher actual market cap, and analysts offer mixed price predictions.
Veteran trader Peter Brandt has issued a stark warning for Ethereum holders, predicting the asset could fall back to $800. In a recent post, Brandt shared a chart showing a descending triangle patternโa classic bearish signal that often indicates further downside ahead.
At present, Ethereum is clinging to a crucial support level around $1,500. If it breaks below this level, Brandt believes ETH could tumble as low as $800, revisiting the lows seen in 2022. His prediction comes as Ethereum continues to struggle with resistance and broader market uncertainty.
A Tough Year for Ethereum
Ethereum hasnโt had it easy this year. The second-largest cryptocurrency is down over 46% in the past 12 months. Just this week, ETH slipped 4% after the Federal Reserve decided to leave interest rates unchanged, mirroring a drop seen in Bitcoin.
When Brandt made his prediction, Ether was trading at $1,587. It has since risen slightly, now changing hands at around $1,596โup 0.8% in the past day. Brandt is no stranger to controversy in the crypto space. He has previously dismissed Ethereum as โworthless junk.โ
NBA Legend Scottie Pippen Turns Bullish on Ether
In contrast to Brandtโs bearish stance, NBA Hall-of-Famer Scottie Pippen has shared an optimistic outlook. He believes a major altcoin season could begin as early as this Sunday, following patterns seen after previous Bitcoin halvings.
Pippen has expressed support for Ethereum, citing his involvement in a project focused on AI, gaming, and the tokenization of real-world assets.
Meanwhile, Tron founder Justin Sun is holding onto his Ethereum holdings. He also stated that he will continue working with Ethereum developers to help drive innovation and collaboration in the crypto ecosystem.
XRP Overtakes Ethereum in FDV
In a surprising development, XRP has overtaken Ethereum in terms of fully diluted market cap (FDV). As of April 2025, XRPโs FDV stands at approximately $208.4 billion, while Ethereumโs is around $192.5 billion.
However, itโs important to understand that FDV represents the total value of all possible tokens, including those not yet in circulation. In terms of actual market cap based on circulating supply, Ethereum still holds the lead.
Whatโs Driving XRPโs Rise?
XRPโs growing FDV is largely due to recent positive regulatory news, rising institutional interest, and its expanding role in cross-border payments. While Ethereum continues to face pressure from competing blockchains and shifts in tokenomics following recent upgrades, it remains a dominant player with the highest real market cap among altcoins.
XRP to Surpass ETH? Standard Chartered Thinks So
According to a new forecast by Standard Chartered, XRP could reach $12.50 by 2028. If that happens, it could surpass Ethereum in total market capitalization. The projection is based on expectations of regulatory clarity, further institutional adoption, and the possible approval of an XRP ETF.
Crypto analyst Ali Martinez has highlighted that Ethereum is currently trading between two important levels: $1,540 and $1,630. He notes that a breakout in either direction will determine where ETH heads next.
In a recent post on X, Martinez also mentioned that the best times to accumulate Ethereum have historically come when its price drops below the lower MVRV Price Band. According to him, ETH is currently in that same accumulation zone again.
With key levels under pressure and mixed signals from the market, all eyes remain on Ethereumโs ability to hold its ground.
