NEAR Price Stalls Despite Its Quantum-Safe Push

Story Highlights
  • NEAR has shipped FIPS-204 post-quantum signing and is testing quantum-resistant infrastructure.

  • NEAR price has reclaimed the 50-day EMA but is struggling around the $2 resistance.

  • A breakout above $2.50 could expose $3.50 and $4.34, while failure risks a move toward $1.

NEAR price is showing the usual crypto contradiction: the protocol is working on infrastructure that could matter for the entire industry, while its token is still struggling to convince traders. NEAR has already shipped FIPS-204 post-quantum signing as billions of dollars remain exposed to potential quantum attacks.

NEAR’s Quantum Push Gets Institutional Attention

The project is also involved in a pilot bringing banks and regulators across Europe, the Middle East and Asia together to test quantum-resistant wallets and onchain transfers through a NEAR testnet. The Responsible Fintech Institute and Safeheron are piloting quantum-safe wallet generation and transfers as part of that effort.

That gives NEAR a fairly serious fundamental story. The problem is that fundamentals don’t automatically move tokens.

So far, NEAR price has mostly benefited from the broader market’s August recovery, with BTC strength helping push it toward the $2 resistance after flipping the 50-day EMA on the weekly chart. That’s progress, but hardly a confirmed trend reversal.

NEAR Price Needs Buyers Above $2

The next move depends heavily on whether fresh demand actually arrives. If NEAR clears $2 and holds above it, the next major test could come around $2.50, which also lines up with the resistance edge of its multiyear falling wedge.

A decisive breakout there would put $3.50 and then $4.34 into focus. But that’s a big “if.” The quantum narrative may make the project look increasingly relevant, yet traders still need to show they care about the token.

One Failed Breakout Could Change Everything

Failure around $2 would leave the recovery looking considerably less convincing. Without follow-up demand, NEAR protocol price could retreat toward $1 or potentially lower.

For now, NEAR price has a credible fundamental story but lacks the definitive catalyst needed to turn that story into a sustained breakout. Until buyers prove otherwise, $2 remains the line that matters most.
