New Marketing Tactic? AI Bot Drives GOAT Memecoin to $150M in Just 4 Days

Story Highlights
  • An AI bot hyped a memecoin named Goatseus Maximus (GOAT), causing its market cap to surge from $5,000 to $150 million

  • While the AI experiment wasn't meant to manipulate crypto markets, it highlights the potential influence of AI.

  • This event sparks discussion about the future of AI's role in the growth and regulation of digital assets.

With a twist of irony, a memecoin tagged Goatseus Maximus (GOAT) skyrocketed to a $150M market cap within 4 days, all thanks to an Artificial Intelligence bot Truth Terminal. Though the bot developed and funded by a16z did not launch the meme coin, the public promotion of the same played a great role in the GOAT’s growth.

But what’s even more astonishing is the fact that Truth Terminal wasn’t even designed to promote cryptocurrencies. What’s going on? Let’s explore.

The Bot Behind the Hype

Truth Terminal was developed by venture capitalist Andy Ayrey with technical help from Meta, using its Llama 3.1 language model. The AI bot used its semi-autonomous X account to promote the GOAT token, despite Ayrey not intending for it to be a crypto-promotional tool. Still, the botโ€™s endorsement drew significant attention to the token, sparking its rapid rise.

On October 13, Ayrey posted on X to clarify that Truth Terminal was initially created for a “memetic contagion” experiment, not for promoting cryptocurrencies. Regardless, GOATโ€™s market cap leaped from just $5,000 to $150 million in only 72 hours, showing the effect of AI-driven buzz.

GOAT Explodes!

GOAT reached its peak valuation on October 14, after launching via pump.fun on the Solana network on October 10. Although the tokenโ€™s market cap has since settled at $120 million, its swift climb has created a stir in the memecoin space, with many wondering what lies ahead for the token.

This event shows the power of AI to influence market trends, even without intention. Ayrey emphasized that Truth Terminal wasnโ€™t meant to manipulate the market, yet its effects reveal both the risks and opportunities that AI-driven activity can bring to the financial world.

Is This the Beginning of a New Memecoin Trend?

Some traders believe this could start a new phase for memecoins, where AI endorsements could send token prices soaring. Even though Ayrey stressed that the botโ€™s actions were purely experimental, Truth Terminal has undeniably played a part in creating excitement around GOAT.
