Dr. Goertzel’s Account HACKED! Fake Token Giveaway Targets Crypto Fans

Story Highlights
  • Dr. Ben Goertzel's social media account was hacked and is being used to promote a fake token giveaway.

  • Hackers have targeted other high-profile accounts in the past, including Doja Cat, Metallica, Hulk Hogan, and 50 Cent.

  • Users are advised to be cautious and not respond to anything from hacked accounts, and to report any such scams to the platform.

Dr. Ben Goertzel, a leading AI researcher, has recently fallen victim to a cyberattack on his ‘X’ account. The breach, reported by Singularity on Twitter, has left fans and the public on high alert. Everyone is strongly advised to block any communications from this compromised account, as all messages, posts, and offers may now originate from the hackers.

Importantly, there are currently no legitimate token giveaways or airdrops associated with Dr. Goertzel. The account remains under hacker control, actively promoting an airdrop for the token $AGIX.

Trying to Regain Control

Dr. Goertzelโ€™s team is working closely with X companyโ€™s support and security specialists to recover the unauthorized account. They have expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and promised to provide updates soon.

A Troubling Trend of High-Profile Hacks

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident. Other high-profile accounts have also been targeted by hackers, resulting in significant financial and reputational damage.

  1. Doja Cat: Earlier this month, rapper and singer Doja Catโ€™s ‘X’ account was hacked. The attacker promoted a fraudulent meme token, $DOJA, urging her 5.6 million followers to invest. This led to a temporary surge in the token’s market cap, followed by a sharp 96% decline, causing many followers to suffer financial losses.
  1. Metallica: The legendary band Metallica also fell victim to hackers who used their social media to spread fake news and offer enticing but false promotions. Fans were lured with promises of incriminating videos and free crypto, resulting in unreported financial losses.
  1. Hulk Hogan: Iconic wrestler Hulk Hoganโ€™s account was similarly compromised. Hackers advertised fake crypto schemes, scamming followers into depositing money or providing personal information.
  1. 50 Cent: The popular rapperโ€™s X account was compromised, and took to the page to advertise a false cryptocurrency giveaway that saw his millions of followers fall for it.

Cybercriminals staging their unhealthy exercises on social media calls for enhanced security measures and usersโ€™ awareness. As for the users, they are urged to be cautious and not respond to anything from the hacked account and should immediately report any such scams to the platform.
