DOGS Airdrop Hits Record 17M Claims; Hamster Kombat, Catizen Next in Line?

    Story Highlights
    • The DOGS airdrop, inspired by the Spotty sticker, caused a massive surge in popularity and temporarily disrupted the TON network.

    • With over 17 million participants, DOGS became the largest meme token generation event, though its holder count is still relatively small.

    • The crypto community is eagerly anticipating the upcoming Hamster Kombat TGE and airdrop, but concerns remain about its execution.

The recent Dogs airdrop has brought joy and excitement to the crypto community. More than 17 million people took part in this event, which is tied to a meme project inspired by the iconic dog sticker “Spotty,” created by Telegram founder Pavel Durov. Originally designed for a charity auction benefiting orphans, Spotty quickly gained fame within the crypto world, now becoming the face of this buzzing airdrop.

    TON Network Overload!

The rush to claim DOGS tokens was so intense that it caused a six-hour disruption on the TON blockchain. The sudden spike in traffic, with users trying to claim their share of the $550 million airdrop, temporarily halted the network. So far, nearly 17 million people have successfully claimed their tokens. The project team revealed that their mini app has gained over 53 million users, with 42 million eligible for the airdrop. This makes DOGS the biggest token generation event in the meme coin space.

While this is a big achievement for a meme project, itโ€™s still smaller compared to top cryptocurrencies. For instance, Ethereum has 273.28 million holders, while the popular meme coin Shiba Inu has 128 million.

How Does DOGS Rank Among Other Airdrops?

According to Coingecko, the Bonk meme coin ranks seventh in airdrop value among the top 10 crypto airdrops. At the top is Uniswap, with the largest airdrop worth $6.43 billion. Now, the Telegram community is eagerly waiting for the next big event: the token generation event (TGE) and airdrop of Hamster Kombat. Along with Hamster, another anticipated airdrop is Catizen.

The Hamster Kombat team reported 300 million players in July, but the number of daily active players recently dropped from 91 million to 87 million.

What to Expect from Hamster Kombatโ€™s Airdrop

As the Hamster Kombat TGE approaches on September 26, 2024, the crypto community is filled with anticipation. Despite the airdrop date being near, the team hasnโ€™t announced the total number of tokens they will generate. Although they continue adding new games to their Telegram platform, most users are focused on the value of the upcoming airdrop.

Some members of the community are unsure if the team will follow through with the TGE on time, as there have been delays in the past. With the event drawing closer, it will be interesting to see how many of the 87 million daily players will qualify for the airdrop and how much each will receive.
