Why Are Chip Stocks Up Today? AMD Earnings Hopes And Bargain Buying After Selloff

Chipmakers bounced back before Tuesday’s open after heavy losses in the prior session. AMD rose 2.92%, Intel gained 2.85% and Nvidia added 1.58% in premarket trading. AMD reports third-quarter results after the close, with revenue expected at about $13.1 billion, up 42%, and adjusted earnings of $1.95 a share. Investors will watch its data centre sales and next-quarter guidance closely. Morgan Stanley’s Joseph Moore lifted his target to $510 but kept a Hold rating, while BMO’s Harsh Kumar repeated a Buy with a $550 target. Nvidia gained after the Financial Times reported it has asked cloud partners to sell at least 51% of future capacity to non-Chinese customers. Samsung will also reportedly make HBM base dies for AMD and Nvidia at a new Texas plant from 2030. Intel’s rebound follows two sharp declines on its weak fourth-quarter outlook.
