Thailand has introduced the TouristDigiPay program, allowing foreign tourists to convert cryptocurrencies into Thai baht for local spending. This 18-month initiative, starting in August 2025, aims to revive the tourism sector, especially after a decline in Chinese visitors. Tourists must open accounts with regulated digital asset and e-money providers and follow strict Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures. While crypto can’t be used directly for payments, it can be converted to baht for electronic transactions, including QR code payments. Safeguards like spending limits and no cash withdrawals ensure security and compliance. This move positions Thailand as a pioneer in integrating crypto with tourism.
