Tesla to End Cybertruck Production by 2027 in Major AI Pivot

Tesla plans to wind down Cybertruck production by mid-2027 as it shifts its focus toward AI and autonomous driving. CEO Elon Musk said the move will free up capacity at Gigafactory Texas for production of Tesla’s Cybercab robotaxi. The Cybertruck has fallen well short of Tesla’s initial target of 250,000 annual sales. US sales dropped 48% in 2025 to 20,237 vehicles, followed by another 38% decline through September 2026. Tesla is now prioritizing AI-powered autonomous driving and robotaxis as its next major growth opportunity.
