Solana Price Consolidates Below $78 as Open Interest Declines: What’s Next for SOL?

Solana’s price has been stuck within a descending channel, forming lower highs and lows as the bears seem to be in control. The price is trading at $73.53 with a drop of 1.02%, while the trading volume also decreased slightly by 13.44%. While SOL’s technical structure remains cautious, derivatives and on-chain data present a mixed picture.

Can Solana’s resilient network activity offset the decline in Open Interest and support a price recovery? Or will fading derivatives participation keep SOL price under pressure in the sessions ahead?

Solana Technical Analysis: Bears Defend Key Resistance Near $78

Solana price continued to trade within a descending channel on the 4-hour chart, with the price hovering around $73.34 at the time of writing. The token has repeatedly failed to break above the channel’s upper trendline, keeping the broader short-term trend tilted to the downside.

The immediate resistance lies near $77.97, which aligns with the upper boundary of the descending channel. A decisive close above this level could invalidate the current bearish structure and open the door for a move toward the next resistance at $83.47. On the downside, the $73 region remains an important support. Losing this level could expose SOL to the next support around $69.50, followed by $67.73 if selling pressure intensifies.

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) remains below the neutral 50 level, indicating that bearish momentum is still in control despite recent attempts at recovery. Meanwhile, the Chaikin Money Flow (CMF) remains in negative territory, suggesting capital outflows continue to outweigh inflows, although the indicator has started to stabilize. Together, these indicators suggest that while selling pressure may be easing, buyers have yet to regain enough strength to confirm a sustained trend reversal.

Open Interest Declines While Solana Network Activity Remains Resilient

Beyond the technical setup, Solana’s derivatives and on-chain metrics present a mixed outlook. According to Open Interest data, leveraged positions have continued to decline from their January highs, indicating that traders have reduced their exposure as SOL price consolidates below key resistance. Although Open Interest has stabilized in recent sessions, it remains well below previous peak levels, suggesting fresh speculative demand is yet to return.

In contrast, Solana’s on-chain activity has remained relatively stable. Token Terminal data shows the network continues to record around 2.4 million daily active users, with user activity recovering after a brief dip earlier this month. The steady increase in active addresses indicates that network engagement remains intact despite the recent price weakness.

The divergence between declining Open Interest and resilient network activity suggests that while speculative participation has cooled, underlying blockchain usage remains healthy. A sustained increase in Open Interest alongside strong network activity could support a bullish breakout above $78. However, if leveraged participation remains subdued, SOL may struggle to build enough momentum to break out of its current range.

Key Levels to Monitor

Resistance:

  • $77.97
  • $83.47

Support:

  • $73.00
  • $69.50
  • $67.73

The Bottom Line

Solana’s price remains in a consolidation phase below the key $78 resistance, with the broader short-term trend still favoring the bears. While weakening Open Interest points to softer speculative demand, steady network activity suggests the blockchain continues to see healthy user engagement.

A decisive breakout above $77.97, accompanied by rising Open Interest, could strengthen bullish momentum and pave the way toward $83.47. On the other hand, a break below $73 could reinforce the bearish outlook, exposing SOL to $69.50 and potentially $67.73 if selling pressure intensifies. Until either level is breached, traders are likely to watch for confirmation before positioning for the next directional move.
