Bitcoin Price Holds $73K as Whales Accumulate — Is $100K the Next Target?

Bitcoin price is consolidating after its latest breakout, but the underlying market structure is showing a more important signal: larger holders are accumulating while smaller wallets are distributing into strength. BTC recently climbed from $62,229 on August 1 to $81,500, before retreating toward $77,570. Now, the $73,880 MVRV pricing band has emerged as the key level for bulls. If Bitcoin holds this support and reclaims the $81,000–$84,000 resistance zone, the next major upside target could be $100,000.

Bitcoin’s Retail-Whale Divergence Takes Center Stage

The latest accumulation data reveals a sharp split in Bitcoin holder behavior. BTC has gained roughly 31%, rising from $62,229 on August 1 to $81,500. Yet the rally has coincided with persistent selling from smaller holders. Wallets holding between 0.1 and 1 BTC posted an Accumulation Trend Score of -0.982, indicating aggressive distribution from this cohort.

The broader accumulation heatmap, however, paints a different picture. Larger wallet groups have shown comparatively stronger accumulation during the advance. Retail distribution during a price rally does not necessarily signal weakness when larger holders are absorbing the available supply. Instead, it can indicate that coins are gradually moving from weaker or shorter-term holders toward investors with a longer-term positioning horizon. That makes the current correction more important to watch through the lens of holder behavior rather than price alone.

$73K Is the Level Bitcoin Bulls Cannot Afford to Lose

The clearest downside marker on the current setup is $73,880, where the -0.5 MVRV pricing band is positioned. Bitcoin’s MVRV pricing bands provide a valuation framework based on the relationship between market value and realized value. In the current structure, $73,880 represents the level bulls need to defend to keep the broader recovery intact. A sustained hold above this zone would suggest that the recent pullback remains a consolidation within the larger uptrend rather than a structural reversal.

More importantly, the MVRV bands currently identify $100,000 as the next major upside area if Bitcoin continues holding above the support band. BTC price trading around $77,570 after breaking above a prolonged consolidation range that had kept price largely contained around the $60,000–$70,000 region. That breakout accelerated the rally toward the $81,000–$84,000 resistance zone, but Bitcoin has so far failed to establish a decisive close above it.

A strong daily breakout above $84,000, particularly if supported by expanding volume, would confirm that buyers have regained control of the upper range. That could create the technical space for Bitcoin to extend its advance toward the six-figure mark. The momentum indicator is also positioned near the upper end of its recent range, showing that buying momentum remains elevated. However, this also leaves room for short-term consolidation before another breakout attempt.

Can BTC Reach $100K?

Bitcoin’s setup is increasingly defined by two levels: $73,880 support and $81,000–$84,000 resistance. Holding above $73,880 keeps the MVRV structure constructive and gives bulls room to make another attempt at the resistance band. A decisive breakout above $84,000 would strengthen the continuation setup and bring $100,000 into focus as the next major psychological and technical target. However, failure to defend $73,880 would materially weaken the bullish structure and could signal that the recent breakout is losing momentum.
