During the European morning hours, Hackers hijacked the Supreme Court of India’s YouTube Channel and rebranded it to Ripple, the seventh biggest cryptocurrency by market cap. According to the report, this channel holds a significant subscriber base of over 217,000 and was used to stream live court cases.
Following the hijack, hackers played a fake live stream featuring Ripple Labs CEO Brad Garlinghouse with the title “Brad Garlinghouse: Ripple Responds To The SEC’s $2 Billion Fine! XRP PRICE PREDICTION.” Based on the data, the hackers urged live viewers to invest in the fake cryptocurrency by promising unrealistic gains.
During the live stream, hackers also placed a phishing link in the video, which, when clicked, urges users to connect their wallets. If someone connects their wallet, the hackers can take full control of the user’s wallet to steal their crypto without any authentication.
However, later YouTube deleted the channel along with Fake Video while citing “This channel was removed because it violated our Community Guidelines.“
Following this incident, the Supreme Court of India made a statement “This is to inform all concerned that the YouTube channel of Supreme Court of India has been taken down. The services on YouTube channel of Supreme Court of India will be resumed shortly.”
