Why Hyperliquid (HYPE) Price is Crashing: Key Reasons Behind the Sell-Off

Hyperliquid (HYPE) price continues to trend lower after failing to reclaim its recent highs, with bearish momentum accelerating as investors digest a series of negative developments. While Hyperliquid remains one of the fastest-growing perpetual trading ecosystems in crypto, the market is increasingly focused on rising sell-side pressure rather than long-term fundamentals. Institutional wallet movements, governance uncertainty, staking-related fears and a weakening chart structure have all combined to push the token into a critical technical zone. Here are the key reasons behind the HYPE price sell-off.

Bitwise Selling Adds Fresh Pressure

The most immediate catalyst behind HYPE’s decline is renewed institutional selling. Lookonchain reported that Bitwise transferred another 117,917 HYPE tokens, worth roughly $7.05 million, to Coinbase. The transaction follows a series of similar exchange deposits over recent weeks, reinforcing concerns that one of Hyperliquid’s largest institutional holders is continuing to reduce its exposure.

While exchange transfers don’t necessarily confirm an immediate sale, traders often interpret repeated deposits as a signal that additional supply could soon enter the market. That expectation alone has been enough to keep buyers on the sidelines.

Governance Changes Have Sparked Community Debate

Market sentiment has also been dented by growing discussion around Hyperliquid’s proposed HIP-3 upgrade. The proposal would introduce optional KYC and allowlist functionality for deployers, a feature many believe could make the network more attractive to institutional participants. However, others argue it moves Hyperliquid away from the permissionless model that helped fuel its early growth.

Although the proposal may ultimately broaden institutional adoption, the uncertainty surrounding its implementation has become another short-term headwind for HYPE.

Unstaking Fears and Macro Headwinds Weigh on Buyers

Beyond governance concerns, reports of significant staking withdrawals by early investors have also unsettled the market. Even if unstaked tokens are not immediately sold, the prospect of additional circulating supply has encouraged profit-taking after HYPE’s strong rally earlier this year.

At the same time, broader risk appetite across crypto has softened amid ongoing macroeconomic uncertainty, limiting buyers’ willingness to step into volatile altcoins. The combination of these factors has amplified selling pressure at a time when market confidence was already fading.

HYPE Price Analysis: Can Hyperliquid Defend $50?

After facing repeated rejection around the $76-$78 resistance zone, HYPE price has remained trapped inside a well-defined descending channel, printing a sequence of lower highs and lower lows. The token has also slipped beneath the 20-day and 50-day Exponential Moving Averages, while the Relative Strength Index (RSI) has fallen below the neutral zone, reflecting weakening bullish momentum.

The $50-$52 region now represents the market’s most critical support, aligning with both the 200-day EMA and a historical demand zone. If buyers fail to defend this level, HYPE could extend its correction toward the $35-$40 range. Conversely, reclaiming the descending trendline and closing above $62 would be the first indication that bearish momentum is beginning to fade.

What’s Next For Hyperliquid?

Despite the ongoing correction, Hyperliquid’s long-term fundamentals remain largely unchanged. The protocol continues to rank among the leading decentralised perpetual exchanges, generating strong trading activity and ecosystem growth. The coming sessions will therefore be crucial, with the $50 support zone likely to determine whether the token stabilises or enters a deeper corrective phase.
