Ethplorer Review: The Ethereum Explorer Powering Smarter Blockchain Tracking

Published by

The Ethereum ecosystem has come a long way since the first wave of ERC-20 tokens. Today, it’s a constantly evolving network that powers everything from DeFi protocols and DAOs to stablecoins and memecoins. With that growth has come a flood of on-chain activity — millions of tokens, thousands of smart contracts, and billions in value moving daily.

For anyone trying to track what’s happening — whether it’s a trader looking to capitalize on trends, a developer testing a contract, or an analyst monitoring token flows — navigating this data isn’t always simple.

Of course, you need to be using the right tools if you want to get the most out of your blockchain adventures. In this article, we’ll be checking out Ethplorer, an Ethereum blockchain explorer that goes beyond standard Ethereum explorers. And we will touch on several useful blockchain explorers from Ethplorer, designed for other blockchains.

Ethplorer is a go-to tool for both casual users and developers, offering a clear view into Ethereum’s ecosystem — from real-time transactions and historical token charts to powerful API for deeper integration. With the network’s latest upgrades (Pectra etc.) making wallets more powerful, Ethplorer’s notification system has become more essential than ever.

What is Ethplorer?

Ethplorer is an explorer – a platform where users can view information about any address, transaction or token on the Ethereum blockchain. For example, here’s what you will find if you plug a valid Ethereum address into Ethplorer’s search bar:

Below, you’ll also see a list of all the transactions that the address has been involved in, as well as the tokens that were involved in the transaction. If you think a particular address or transaction is especially notable, you can add a custom tag and note to it. Later on, you can return to your notes and review them. Your notes and tags are visible only to you.

In addition, Ethplorer users can track how an Ethereum address has performed as a portfolio – for example, you can view how the ETH and tokens in your personal address have been performing over time and see which tokens have been pulling their weight and which ones have been underperforming. That’s essentially what you look for in a portfolio tracker – the whole portfolio’s value in USD on any given date in the past.

The Ethplorer user interface is straightforward, and the most important features are easy to find and navigate. If you encounter any issues when using Ethplorer, the answers to the most common questions are included in Ethplorer’s knowledge base.

Ethplorer is also part of a broader ecosystem that now includes:

  • Binplorer for BNB Chain
  • Lineaplorer for Linea
  • Blastplorer for Blast & and more!

Watching Service

Ethplorer’s Watching Service is a feature that automatically monitors addresses you select and sends you a real-time notification whenever it performs a transaction. You can choose to monitor incoming transactions, outgoing transactions, or both. You can opt to receive notifications about these transactions either via e-mail or to a Telegram account that you connected to Ethplorer. The watching service is easily accessible by clicking the “eye” icon next to an Ethereum address.

The Watching Service is great because it can drastically cut down on the amount of time you’re spending refreshing pages to see if a transaction has happened, freeing up more time for your life outside of crypto. Of course, it will also help you stay ahead of the curve when it comes to important events like token distributions – in the rapidly evolving world of crypto, being early is almost always an advantage.

Ethplorer’s Watching Service is also completely free to use, and while there’s a limit to how many notifications you can receive each day – 1,000 for Telegram and 500 for e-mail – there should be plenty of headroom for everyone.

If you use the Watching Service on your own address, you can easily see when you receive payments, or even airdrops and DeFi token distributions. If you’re a business working with regular clients, you can tag their addresses and easily keep track of who is paying you and when.

Monitoring your own addresses is also important for security reasons – let’s say you haven’t initiated any transactions yourself, but you receive a notification that there is an outgoing transaction happening from one of your addresses. In such a scenario, you can quickly react and transfer your tokens over to a safe backup wallet to prevent further losses.

Alternatively, you can watch other addresses that you think are important – whether we’re talking about a popular cryptocurrency influencer, whale or a token distribution contract, there’s many ways to leverage the Watching Service to your advantage.

Ethplorer APIs

Ethplorer offers two different APIs – the Ethplorer API and the Bulk API Monitor. Both APIs can be used for free, up to a certain limit. You can increase the limits by creating an Ethplorer account and generating a free personal API key. Using Ethplorer’s APIs can be a great starting point if you are starting a project in any of these blockchains – Ethereum\ BNB\ Blast\ Linea. If you’re a very active user or you want to use the Ethplorer APIs in a production environment, Ethplorer also offers paid plans with much higher capacity.

As the name implies, the Bulk API Monitor is designed to track a large number of Ethereum tokens and addresses simultaneously. This API is mostly useful for large-scale users like wallets, exchanges and cryptocurrency projects that are airdropping tokens to thousands of users at a time.

The bottom line

Ethplorer have created a platform that will be very useful for anyone who’s using Ethereum on a regular basis, particularly those who are handling many different tokens. The Watching Service in particular helps differentiate Ethplorer from other blockchain explorers, as it can really go a long way towards making your life as a crypto investor much easier.

Company Ethplorer has been providing its blockchain explorer for ethereum users since 2016 and has a good reputation. It is the second most visited ETH explorer.

One of the biggest upsides of Ethplorer is that it can provide a lot of value to Ethereum users for free.

As for downsides, one of the features we’d like to see Ethplorer implement is the ability to switch between a night mode and a dark mode. Currently, there’s no way to switch from the default dark theme, as least as far as we’re aware.
