XRP Ledger 3.3.0 Upgrade Is Available With Six Major Features

XRP Ledger version 3.3.0 is now available, introducing one of the biggest software upgrades in the network’s history. Meanwhile, this XRPL upgrade focused on improving privacy, transaction efficiency, and institutional adoption

Despite the positive news for the XRP Ledger ecosystem, the XRP slipped 2.5%, performing weaker than the overall crypto market.

What Is New in XRP Ledger Version 3.3.0?

The XRP Ledger (XRPL) has released version 3.3.0, introducing six major protocol upgrades that validators will review before they can go live on the XRP Ledger.

One of the biggest additions is Confidential Transfers, which allows Multi-Purpose Token (MPT) transactions to hide balances and payment amounts while still being verified through zero-knowledge technology.

Another major feature is Sponsored Fees, allowing banks, businesses, or platforms to pay XRP transaction fees and account reserves for users. This makes onboarding easier because new users no longer need to hold XRP before using XRPL services.

The upgrade also introduces Batch Transactions, enabling up to eight transactions to settle together. If one transaction fails, the entire batch is canceled, reducing settlement risk for financial institutions.

Other changes include Permission Delegation, Dynamic MPT, and infrastructure improvements that reduce validator memory usage by around 10% to 15%, helping the network process transactions more efficiently.

Why Has the Upgrade Not Gone Live Yet?

Although the software is available, the new features still require approval from XRPL validators before activation.

Each amendment must receive 80% validator support and maintain that approval for 14 consecutive days before it becomes active on the mainnet. This process is designed to protect network security.

The careful review comes after earlier versions of the Batch and Permission Delegation features were delayed because researchers discovered security issues that could have allowed unauthorized transactions.

To strengthen the release, Ripple partnered with Web3 security firm Sherlock, which organized community security testing and distributed $309,000 in RLUSD rewards to identify and fix vulnerabilities before the rollout.

Why Is XRP Dropping Even After the Upgrade?

Despite the positive development, XRP continues to trade under pressure, falling about 2.5% over the past day to around $1.03. This made XRP one of the weakest performing major cryptocurrencies this week.

However, if validators approve the amendments, the XRP Ledger could complete one of the most significant technical upgrades in its history.
