Why is Crypto Market Going Down Today?

Published by

Crypto prices dipped recently, and the drop wasn’t really about anything happening inside the crypto world itself. It was mostly about what’s happening everywhere else in the markets.

Bitcoin slipped to around $63,853, Ethereum eased to about $1,918, XRP dipped near $1.06, and Solana fell to roughly $74.27.

It’s Moving Just Like Stocks and Gold

Crypto’s recent move showed a 67% correlation with stocks and 93% with gold now. That means crypto has basically been moving in step with traditional markets lately, not doing its own thing. When something spooks investors broadly, whether that’s worries about interest rates, inflation, or global tensions, crypto tends to fall right alongside stocks and gold rather than standing apart from them.

Leveraged Bets Made the Drop Sharper

Roughly $144.63 million in long positions were liquidated in the pullback alone. In simple terms, a lot of traders had bet on prices going up using borrowed money. When prices dipped even a little, those bets got automatically closed out, which added extra selling pressure and made the drop feel bigger than it might have otherwise.

The Fear and Greed Index currently sits at 34, deep in Fear territory right now, showing that overall mood among crypto traders remains cautious.

Geopolitical Tension Isn’t Helping

Adding to the nervous mood, President Trump has warned he could target Iran’s bridges and power plants if Iran doesn’t reach a deal with the US. That kind of headline tends to push investors toward safer assets like gold and away from anything considered risky, crypto included.

Not All Bad News, Though

Not everything pointed in a negative direction. Franklin Templeton has publicly backed the CLARITY Act just this week, reports. The asset manager said the bill would give crypto investors clearer legal protections and make it obvious which regulator oversees which company, a signal that big institutional players are still pushing for crypto to get clearer rules in the US.

What to Watch Next

Analysts are watching whether the total crypto market can hold support in the $2.12 trillion to $2.15 trillion range. If that level breaks, some expect the market could slide further toward $2.08 trillion. Where things go from here will likely depend heavily on upcoming signals from the Federal Reserve about interest rates and inflation.
