GMX’s USDG expansion is giving Arbitrum another reason to court stablecoin builders. The USDG stablecoin supply reportedly climbed from around $1.5 million in early October to nearly $17 million in less than a month. That’s roughly 10-fold growth, and GMX says integrations across its trading pools and Dollar Vault helped drive the increase.
The growth follows USDG’s integration into GM pools and the GMX Dollar Vault. These products are designed to capture trading volume across BTC, ETH and SOL markets, giving the stablecoin a role within GMX’s trading ecosystem.
The jump is notable, but supply growth alone doesn’t tell the whole story. The next question is whether other protocols can build lasting demand around USDG rather than simply adding another stablecoin ticker.
Arbitrum’s Stablecoin Growth Program is targeting teams building products with USDG at their core. Support includes comarketing, technical integrations and foundation advisory.
Projects may also receive consideration for allocations under Arbitrum’s 165 million ARB incentive programs. There’s a more direct carrot, too: the first 10 teams to reach an average USDG total value locked (TVL) of $10 million can receive 200,000 ARB each, alongside TVL-based rewards.
The program isn’t limited to projects already operating on Arbitrum One. Builders from other chains can also be considered, including early-stage teams without tens of millions in existing volume.
Arbitrum specifically points to lending markets, decentralized exchange pairs, yield strategies and payment infrastructure as potential use cases. Innovative vaults and automated market makers are also in scope.
The pitch is straightforward: bring contracts, build liquidity and tap ecosystem incentives. But incentives only get a project so far. Sustained usage has to follow.
For now, the USDG stablecoin has a growing footprint through GMX, while Arbitrum is offering funding and integration support to attract more builders. Whether that turns into durable adoption will depend on the products teams actually launch.
