Four altcoins posted gains this week, each tied to a distinct catalyst rather than a shared trend. SPX6900, Polygon, Pudgy Penguins and Ethena rallied, driven respectively by a liquidity event, a tokenomics overhaul, unconfirmed IPO speculation, and a new lending deal.
SPX6900 traded above 60 cents, up 11% to 12% on the day and 65% to 70% over the week, with a market cap nearing $600 million. Three factors are cited:
Polygon (POL) climbed roughly 50% in a week before pulling back to the $0.10 to $0.11 range. The rally followed a proposed staking overhaul from Polygon Labs’ Sandeep Nailwal, who said network revenue is up tenfold this year. The proposal would direct transaction fees to POL stakers instead of inflationary rewards, potentially nearly doubling staking yield.
PENGU traded near $0.0097, up 35% to 60% over the week, with daily volume exceeding $300 million. The rally followed a cryptic four-emoji post from CEO Luca Netz, which some traders read as hinting at a stock listing. No IPO has been confirmed, and PENGU holders do not own equity in Igloo Inc., the company behind the brand. Pudgy Penguin toys are now sold at Target and Walmart.
ENA traded near $0.146, roughly doubling from mid-August lows. The move followed an August 19 announcement that Ethena and FalconX would launch a $1 billion secured lending facility, using assets backing Ethena’s USDe stablecoin to fund institutional loans rather than relying solely on basis trade yield. Despite the rally, ENA remains roughly 90% below its all-time high.
