With a twist of irony, a memecoin tagged Goatseus Maximus (GOAT) skyrocketed to a $150M market cap within 4 days, all thanks to an Artificial Intelligence bot Truth Terminal. Though the bot developed and funded by a16z did not launch the meme coin, the public promotion of the same played a great role in the GOAT’s growth.

The Bot Behind the Hype

Truth Terminal was developed by venture capitalist Andy Ayrey with technical help from Meta, using its Llama 3.1 language model. The AI bot used its semi-autonomous X account to promote the GOAT token, despite Ayrey not intending for it to be a crypto-promotional tool. Still, the bot’s endorsement drew significant attention to the token, sparking its rapid rise.

On October 13, Ayrey posted on X to clarify that Truth Terminal was initially created for a “memetic contagion” experiment, not for promoting cryptocurrencies. Regardless, GOAT’s market cap leaped from just $5,000 to $150 million in only 72 hours, showing the effect of AI-driven buzz.

GOAT reached its peak valuation on October 14, after launching via pump.fun on the Solana network on October 10. Although the token’s market cap has since settled at $120 million, its swift climb has created a stir in the memecoin space, with many wondering what lies ahead for the token.
