In a daring forecast that’s creating waves in the crypto world, 2024 US Presidential candidate Patrick Riley predicts that XRP, the native cryptocurrency of the Ripple network, is poised to overthrow Bitcoin from its dominant position.

XRP’s Potential Rise to the Top

Riley, a Republican candidate for the upcoming presidential elections, recently took to Twitter to announce his belief that XRP will outperform Bitcoin and ascend to the number one position in the crypto market. According to Riley, this will occur once XRP hits an $11 trading price. His tweet emphasized that it was only a matter of ‘when’, not ‘if’, and he invited followers to speculate on the timing of this major market shift.

A Mixed Bag of Reactions

The audacious claim drew a wide array of reactions from the crypto community. While many were intrigued by the potential for such an upheaval, others expressed doubts about its feasibility.

Sceptics challenged the prediction, arguing that no cryptocurrency has ever been able to dethrone Bitcoin in terms of market cap. In response, Riley noted that there was a brief period in 2017 when such a turnover did occur, though it was Ethereum, not XRP, that momentarily outranked Bitcoin.

Others suggested that if XRP’s price rises, Bitcoin’s price is likely to increase as well, implying that the two cryptocurrencies may continue to move in tandem. Disputing this viewpoint, Riley hinted at a potential decoupling, stating, “I’m not sure we’ll be following BTC much longer.”

A Continuing Commitment to XRP

Riley’s recent forecast isn’t his first display of belief in XRP’s potential. In an earlier tweet, he created a poll asking his followers to choose between the Japanese Yen and XRP as the global reserve currency. XRP emerged as the clear favourite, winning 95.7% of the total 323 votes.

Rising Tensions Between XRP and Bitcoin Supporters

The escalating excitement around XRP’s ascent has caught the attention of the wider crypto community, particularly Bitcoin maximalists. CryptoBull, an influential XRP advocate, recently called out Bitcoin enthusiasts who had earlier predicted XRP’s downfall to zero.

Responding to CryptoBull’s post, one XRP supporter echoed Riley’s prediction, stating that the day XRP outpaces Bitcoin would be a wake-up call for the sceptics. They humorously suggested that these Bitcoin supporters might find solace with El Salvador’s pro-Bitcoin president.
