Macro Analyst Jim Willie, known for some of the boldest calls in the XRP community, has laid out a macro case for XRP that goes far beyond crypto. In recent interviews, he argued that a coming crisis in government bond markets will push countries away from US Treasuries and toward XRP to settle trade. His price expectations run into the thousands of dollars per token.
The claims are sweeping and come with no supporting evidence. Here is what he said, and what is missing.
Willie’s central argument is that the world is heading for a credit market crisis, centred on fixed income and Treasury bonds.
He tied this to the conflict involving Iran, which he said has created more strained relationships between countries that still need to trade. In his view, those countries will not want to settle in US Treasuries because the US keeps printing money.
“We don’t want your treasuries because you’re printing money,” Willie said, describing the stance he expects from trading partners. He called this debasement and said it opens the door for a neutral settlement asset.
XRP as “the bridge”
Willie said XRP will fill that role. He pointed to Ripple’s work with Flare on smart contracts and DeFi, and claimed the DTCC and Citadel are working with Ripple and that derivatives contracts will settle using XRP.
“That cannot happen with a 20, 30, 50, $80 price,” he said. “The banker’s coin is the bridge.” He also predicted what he called a “Jet Magnificent” launch for XRP, linked to the DTCC settling derivatives.
The $5,000 to $12,000 “predetermined price”
Willie’s most striking claim is that XRP’s price has already been decided. Speaking on the Black Swan Capitalist podcast, he said a group of powerful institutions agreed on it years ago.
He named the IMF, central banks, the Depository Trust working with BNY Mellon, Nasdaq, SWIFT and large Wall Street banks. He said they agreed on “initially a $5,000 price and eventually it’ll be maybe 12,000,” and that the SEC lawsuit against Ripple was used to limit public ownership.
In other interviews, he has spoken of a $1,000 XRP and a first move into “three-digit” prices.
The BlackRock theory
Willie also said he believes XRP was “a skunk work” at BlackRock, meaning a secret project developed inside the firm about a decade ago.
The video recapping his views paired this with a clip of BlackRock CEO Larry Fink. Asked whether BlackRock would launch an XRP ETF, Fink replied, “I can’t.” Supporters read this as a hint. It is equally consistent with a CEO declining to discuss unannounced products.
What the numbers say
XRP traded near $1.34 on Thursday, with about 63 billion tokens in circulation.
Settlement assets do not need a high price to move large sums, because the same tokens can be used again and again. Willie did not address that point. However, his claims remain unconfirmed.
