Ethereum Executes First Atomic L1-to-L2 Transaction on Mainnet

Ethereum has completed its first atomic transaction between the mainnet and a Layer 2 network. The milestone could reduce the need for separate transactions and bridges, while stronger network use could support ETH price.

Meanwhile, Ethereum’s ETH price is currently holding above $2,700.

Ethereum Brings L1 and L2 Closer

Eduardo Antuna, a core contributor to the Ethereum Economic Zone (EEZ), announced this milestone. The transaction shows that atomic synchronous composability now works on the live Ethereum mainnet.

The key feature of an atomic transaction is that all linked actions happen together. If one part fails, the entire transaction is canceled.

So, in the mainnet test, the transaction moved 0.001 Ether (ETH) while also updating a connected rollup in the same block. Both actions were completed together, showing how different networks can work as part of one transaction.

This could also reduce the need for traditional bridges

Ethereum Targets L2 Fragmentation

The milestone addresses one of Ethereum’s biggest challenges as more activity moves to Layer 2 networks.

Today, users often need extra transactions, bridges, or other steps to move assets between Ethereum layers. This can split funds and make the network harder to use.

The EEZ approach aims to let L2s interact with Ethereum contracts and liquidity more directly, making different layers work more like one connected system.

Gnosis and Zisk Built the EEZ Framework

The Ethereum Economic Zone was built by Gnosis and Zisk with support from the Ethereum Foundation. The framework lets L2 networks work across layers while keeping transactions linked together.

After the mainnet test, Gnosis Chain plans to launch its first live EEZ rollup block between December 2026 and January 2027.

Ethereum’s Scaling Push Could Boost ETH Price

With developments like this continuing across the Ethereum ecosystem, stronger network utility could increase its use and support demand for ETH over time. As of now, ETH is holding above the $2,700 support level, with $3,300 as the next key resistance.

Meanwhile, Citigroup has raised its institutional ETH target to $3,028, adding further support to the bullish outlook.
