Trump vs. Harris: Everything to Know About the US Presidential Election Debate 2024

The United States is going to witness a very significant moment in the US Presidential Election Debate 2024. Democratic Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump are getting ready to face each other for the election debate. The debate will happen at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia on September 10, Tuesday at 9 PM ET. This will offer voters an overview of how each candidate plans to run the nation. Let’s dive deeper and learn about the rules of debate and what to expect.

Moderators, Rules, and Format

Moderated by ABC News anchors David Muir and Linsey Davis, the debate will follow a structured format designed to maintain order and focus. Only the candidate speaking will have a live microphone, a rule aimed at minimizing interruptions. All questions will be posed solely by the moderators, who will also outline additional rules at the start of the event. A virtual coin toss earlier this week determined that Trump will deliver the closing statement, while Harris will use the right podium.

There will be no opening statements, and each candidate will have two minutes to respond to each question, followed by another two minutes for counter-arguments, and a minute for follow-up questions or clarifications. Candidates must remain behind their podiums throughout the debate and are prohibited from using props or pre-written notes.

They will, however, be provided with a pen, a paper pad, and a bottle of water. Notably, campaign staff are barred from communicating with the candidates during breaks, and no audience will be present in the debate space.

Candidate Preparations

With only hours left until the debate, both candidates are finalizing their preparations. Kamala Harris has been participating in mock debates with Philippe Reins, refining her responses over the weekend in Pittsburgh. Her “New Way Forward” platform features key proposals such as expanding the Child Tax Credit and capping insulin costs at $35, reflecting her methodical yet potentially overly controlled debate style.

Donald Trump, on the other hand, has been actively meeting with allies and receiving coaching on foreign policy from prominent figures including former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former Democratic Representative Tulsi Gabbard. These sessions aim to bolster his positions on critical global issues and sharpen his debate tactics.

Key Issues and What to Watch For

During the debate, Trump is expected to challenge Harris on her stances on immigration, taxes, and foreign policy. An intriguing aspect will be the potential inclusion of cryptocurrency-related topics. Trump has been vocal about his views on crypto, but it remains to be seen if it will feature in the debate discussions.

Where to Watch

The debate will be broadcast live on ABC News Live 24/7 streaming network and Fox News. In addition, viewers can catch it on OTT platforms like Disney+ and Hulu.

As the clock ticks down, anticipation builds for this face-off between former President Donald Trump and current Vice-President Kamala Harris. Though fully moderated, the debate promises to offer plenty of intrigue and could provide much-needed clarity for undecided voters
