Bitcoin has been struggling, dropping over 28% from its all-time high of $109,000 in January to a low of $78,197. Investor sentiment remains weak, with many fearing a further dip toward $70,000. However, analysts believe Bitcoin will likely stabilize between $72,000 and $80,000 before rebounding.
Despite the recent decline, optimism about Bitcoin’s long-term future remains strong, with Standard Chartered’s head of digital asset research, Geoffrey Kendrick, predicting a major rally in the coming years.

In a CNBC interview, Kendrick acknowledged the challenges Bitcoin is currently facing, attributing its decline to increasing market uncertainty and regulatory pressures. However, he sees this as just a temporary setback. He remains confident that Bitcoin will climb to $200,000 by the end of this year and could even reach $500,000 before early 2029. While these figures may seem ambitious, Kendrick believes that key market shifts and increasing institutional interest will drive Bitcoin to new heights.
One of the biggest factors behind Kendrick’s bullish outlook is regulatory clarity. He expects new rules around stablecoins and Know Your Customer (KYC) compliance to bring legitimacy to the crypto industry. As regulations become clearer, major financial institutions in the U.S. could start viewing Bitcoin as a serious asset.
Next up is the sleeping giant. Bitcoin ETFs have already sparked strong interest, but Kendrick believes this is just the beginning. U.S. pension funds, which manage $40 trillion in assets, currently have very little exposure to Bitcoin ETFs. If regulations improve, these funds could begin investing in Bitcoin at a large scale, pushing demand to new levels.
Kendrick also sees sovereign wealth funds as a major catalyst for Bitcoin’s growth. Abu Dhabi’s Sovereign Wealth Fund has already started investing in Bitcoin ETFs, and Kendrick expects more governments and large-scale funds to follow. This kind of institutional involvement could play a key role in Bitcoin’s long-term price surge.
Despite short-term volatility, Kendrick believes Bitcoin has massive upside potential. If regulatory improvements, institutional investment, and ETF growth come together, Bitcoin could be on track to reach $500,000 in the next few years.
