Amazon stock (Nasdaq: AMZN) has slid 6% in the after hours to trade at $230.39 after a rare “double miss” of Wall Street estimates. Shares have also plummeted in light of a macro tech correction following Google’s 12% share drop today.
Amazon reported a Q3 2026 revenue of $201.9 billion. While this was a 12% increase year-over-year, the figure slightly fell short of analysts’ estimates of $202.26 billion. Adjusted earnings per share (EPS) came in at $1.89 per share, also missing the $1.97 expected EPS. Net Income reached $20.7 billion, with operating income at $28.1 billion (achieving a record 13.9% operating margin).
A key highlight was the growth in Amazon Web Services (AWS) beyond analysts’ estimates. The cloud computing division saw $46.0 billion in net sales, marking a 39.3% YoY increase. This beat the 37.8% projected growth and also broke the record for the best growth rate in five years.
In terms of AI, Amazon maintains its 2026 capital expenditure target of $220 billion. The company intends to direct these funds towards massive AI data center buildout. Part of the capital will also be directed towards securing custom hardware to satisfy unyielding AI cloud demands.
The company’s AI agent deployment platform, Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, attracted tens of thousands of customers in Q3, with twice as many agents deployed over the same period. More than 400 customers used Alexa for shopping, with interactions up 570% YoY.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy noted that AI infrastructure investment is heavily paying off, adding that the company is now tracking a $184 billion annualized run rate. The company recorded a capital expenditure of $77.3 billion, with part of these funds going into AI research and development.
However, his statements have done little to calm the AI jitters that are now spreading through the tech industry. Other than the recent colossal dump in China’s AI stocks, investor anxiety has also risen as American tech megacaps compress short-term margins and push free cash flow into negative territory (-$42.4 billion for Amazon) in the name of AI development.
Amazon reported that it had laid off 250 software personnel as a means of achieving its cost efficiency goal.
Meanwhile, Prime deliveries hit historic Q3 highs, while the newer global Grocery and Pharmacy categories saw 3x faster unit sales than traditional marketplace items.
For the holiday quarter, Amazon projects sales to land between $240 billion and $247 billion. This range covers Wall Street baseline consensus projection of $244.2 billion, indicating expectations of steady retail growth in that period.
Furthermore, the company’s management expects AWS revenue growth to surpass 40% through the fiscal years 2027 and 2028, while overall revenue grows 12%-16% YoY.
During the active trading session today, AMZN stock lost 4.25% value, with intraday lows hitting $241.24.

The chilly tech sector outlook has now put the Nasdaq Composite Index down 1.38% in the day, while the S&P 500 Index is down 0.30%.
But even then, analysts’ average recommendation for AMZN stock is a “buy”, with an average target price of $335.38.
