Becerra, 68, becomes the first Latino elected governor in California’s history. He previously served in the Biden administration. In his victory speech in Sacramento, Becerra said voters across the country were choosing hope and repair over division and despair. He ended his speech by saying, “Here in California, we’re going to get to work.” Democrat Rob Bonta also won reelection as California attorney general, defeating Republican Michael Gates.
