
US job openings dropped to 7.079 million in August, down from a revised 7.335 million in July, according to the Labor Department’s JOLTS report. The job-openings rate slipped to 4.3% from 4.4%, while hiring edged up to 5.192 million. Quits remained largely unchanged at 3.066 million, while layoffs and discharges fell to 1.641 million.
