Citigroup has partnered with Coinbase to enable stablecoin payments for institutional clients. Citi’s corporate customers will be able to accept stablecoins through its merchant-processing services, convert fiat into crypto or stablecoins, make on-chain payments and convert funds back to fiat. Citi operates across 94 markets and more than 300 clearing systems, while Coinbase has about $246 billion in assets on its platform. Citi projects stablecoin issuance could reach $1.9 trillion by 2030 in its base case.
