HTC Exodus 1
This news comes at a time where smartphone giants like Apple, Samsung have a monopoly over the industry. HTC Exodus 1, is a privacy-based blockchain phone. HTC wants to shift the phone technology to a more blockchain centered technology.
The phone is available for pre-booking using Bitcoins and Ethereum only. The phone is priced at 0.15BTC and 4.78ETH, which converts to a price just under $1000 at the current conversion rates. HTC stated in their blog post,
Our vision is to expand the blockchain ecosystem by creating the world’s first phone dedicated to decentralized applications and security. With the release of the HTC Exodus, we can now make this a reality.
Adding to the above the post said,
With over two decades of experience manufacturing the world’s leading smartphones and shipping over 100 million phones, we believe we can help reshape the internet with the HTC Exodus. Join us and together we will make decentralization a reality.
The first announcement of the launch of the phone was in May by HTC at the CoinDesk Consensus conference. The phone has its own crypto wallet, Zion allowing it to function as a hardware wallet. Phil Chen, HTC’s decentralized chief officer said in an interview,
Think of it as a micro OS that runs in parallel with Android. It basically is a wallet, but the wallet, what it does is hold your private keys.
Cryptocurrencies require cryptographic keys to access their wallets to move their funds from one wallet to another. More often than not, these wallets are held by exchanges. However, since HTC already has a hardware wallet on their phone, it further improves security and safety of the funds.
HTC hopes integrating blockchain and distributed ledger technology in the phone will further consolidate user’s security and privacy. This will also help protect user’s identity and customers data. As per HTC the phones will start shipping by December and is looking for developers to participate in the early access the phones. The phone is to be available in 34 countries including
- The US
- Hong Kong
- New Zealand
- The UK
- Parts of Europe
The phone will not available in China as the country has a strict rule on blockchains and Cryptocurrencies. So, did you pre-order the phone yet?
