The CEO of Bitcoin exchange Mt.Gox, Mark Karpeles was under bankrupt in 2014. He had a hard time finding work for last four years. In February 2014, he announced that he has lost Mt.Gox’s 8, 50,000 Bitcoin and became the biggest villain of cryptocurrency world.
Karpeles ended finding 200,000 of Mt.Gox Bitcoins and authorities believe other 650,000 to be stolen by hackers. The hacker is on criminal trial in Japan on charges of embezzlement, manipulation of electronic data and breach of trust. He was initially arrested in 2015, Karpeles was held in jail for almost a year on these charges.
Karpeles asserted that “I have no way to be sure that I’ll still be able to work in one year, two years”, so I cannot really get a normal full-time job.” In other words, he acknowledges, he may be sent back to jail”.
As London Trust Media is increasing investing cryptocurrency. It is an early investor in Zcash, a privacy-focused digital coin. It is been supported by Purse, a startup which allows people to purchase Amazon items with Bitcoin.
Kerpeles is not forthcoming about his latest career which moves in an initial meeting. Karpeles is hunting four to five different IT consulting jobs which work on projects related to online video games, network communications, and IP address. He trashes to name his employers at the time stating that it is the contractor; he is being prohibited from discussing them.
Karpele’s new employers were happy to hark the news of new hiring. Andrew Lee, co-founder, chairman and chief of lab division at London Trust Media, says, Mark fought and fell. And although he fell, his skills, experience, and know-how unarguably continue to exist, he added that “And so, bringing in a seasoned warrior makes perfect sense to me. I am more than willing to give a second chance to Mark in this fight’s critical hour.”
The fight Lee is referred to is what he calls the “crypto wars” – cryptocurrency’s battle against increasing government regulation and oversight that includes moves by the New York attorney general.
Lee, once sold a company to Mt. Gox and is in operating Mt. Gox’s North American operation for a short time. Karpeles will be working on London Trust Media’s cryptocurrency ventures as well as its products. In addition, Lee says Karpelès’s experience in the Bitcoin industry—despite ending in disaster—will prove valuable, Lee adds: “I wouldn’t dare say that the person who architected the Titanic should never again architect another ship.”
Karpeles will be remotely working from Japan. Currently, he is required to stay while he is on trial. He claims that he was attracted mostly to London Trust Media’s commitment to protecting its customer’s privacy through its VPN services. It also cites his agitation over Facebook’s sharing user’s data as “Advertising-driven overreach on people’s privacy has been a matter I’ve been worried about for some time,”
Overall, Kerpeles asserts that Bitcoin right now is, I believe, doomed, “Its original promise of being the future of currency is clearly out of reach.” Then again, that’s what some said about Karpeles’ career.
