Vitalik Buterin is the brain behind the creation of the second most famous cryptocurrency, Ethereum. He is believed to have a significant amount of his wealth held up in the cryptocurrency he created and other similar cryptocurrencies. Most of his holding is tied up to Ethereum estimated at $82 million at the current market price. Other cash holdings of at least $12m is also attached to his name.
As one of the most influential figure in cryptocurrency, Vitalik has a huge amount of wealth gained by his contributions in creating Ethereum, the world’s second most popular cryptocurrency after Bitcoin. Buterin did not have a wealth background but he managed to land his first $100,000 in 2014 from a Thiel Fellowship at the age of only 20.
Buterin worked on the Ethereum main algorithm including consensus rule, architecture, and placed Ethereum for ICO in July 2014. Ethereum managed to raise $18.3 million in presale, which ensured a steady supply of cash to its major founder Vitalik Buterin. However, major of his wealth comes from the 12 million ethers the Ethereum foundation pre-mined. These now represent about 11% of all the available ethers in the market.
Huge cryptocurrency Holdings
Vitalik Buterin made some of his cryptocurrency wallets public as if to tease hackers of his ingenuity. He owns more than 352,000 ETH in three of his publicly known wallets. Another wallet also indicate an additional holding of $900,000 worth of ERC-20 tokens in his name. ERC-20 Tokens are Ethereum based tokens including Augur (REP), Maker (MKR), Kyber Network (KNC) and OmiseGO (OMG).
In February 2019 Vitalik posted on Reddit saying his holdings in Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Zcash and Dogecoin are more than 10% of his Ethereum holding. This means he could be holding up to 2,000 BTC, 58,000 BCH, 140,000 ZEC and at least 3.6 million DOGE. These coins alone adds more than $35 million to his total net worth.
Other Cash and Equity Holdings
Just like any conventional investment guru, Vitalik has a significant amount of his wealth converted to cash. In a March 2019 tweet, which has so far been taken down, he declared that he has fiat holdings in the downer side of $30 million. Buterin further has holdings in two companies, Clearmatics and Stakware. All of these two companies are involved with blockchain and cryptocurrencies. Adding up these figure, it is safe to put the networth of the Ethereum founder at just $100 million.
