John McAfee feels that coronavirus is being used to enforce draconian laws and so does Elon Musk.

On 25th April, Cybersecurity pioneer John McAfee tweeted an ominous message about the present condition of politics. And Tesla CEO Elon Musk came up and supported the message.

McAfee tweeted that, “our democracy has been hacked.” Whereas Musk replied to it by commenting “True”.

Both of them can be seen as skeptical of the global pandemic. Musk stated the panic to be dumb, in early March when around 3,500 people had died. And now, the global death toll has increased up to 200,000. At the same instance, McAfee was repetitively questioning the validity of official statistics.

McAfee explained through a tweet that the coronavirus is being exploited to establish draconian laws.

He said that the virtual Martial law that is enacted to force people to stay at homes in many democratized countries has been used to enact laws. This will give extraordinary powers to governments which were inconceivable when these democracies were originally created. He added that Fear is the main element that is used for ‘hacking’.

McAfee’s concerns are related to recent events. While trying to slow down the spread rate of the coronavirus, global governments have implemented or initiated work on surveillance systems that, for many, obtrude on privacy.

However, he’s concerned about whether these privacy imposing systems will linger after the virus has settled Or not? And if it is so then, it’ll leave the world in an Orwellian state of surveillance.

McAfee has always been an often speaker about protest. And he even runs for President just to take a stand. He said that those concerns should be revealed in front of everyone.

He says that people who see such a threat happening to our democracies must speak out loudly. We should use our voices, take help of the social media and swamp our representatives with messages of our displeasure. At last he concluded by saying that we should always remember that ‘Silence is consent’.

With his initial response, Musk was trying to help with coronavirus relief efforts. He also donated a large number of ventilators and masks to hospitals in the US. Moreover, his tweets regarding the matter have become more muted.

McAfee elaborated to Decrypt that He has backed off a bit under pressure. But if he talks about himself, he never backed off even an inch.
