A cryptocurrency company in Istanbul filed a complaint to the police that a huge amount of their money in Bitcoin, Ethereum and Ripple stolen. After a detailed investigation of the Istanbul Cyber Crime Branch Office found that two virtual money accounts of the company hacked. Resulting in 13 million lira of crypto money transferred from hacked accounts to other virtual cryptocurrency accounts.
As per the article in the newspaper The Daily Sabah, about $2.7 million of cryptocurrencies were stolen from the cryptocurrency company in Istanbul. The cybercrime units launched an operation to arrest the suspects.
According to the police forces, the suspects were communicating through a popular online multiplayer battle royale game PlayerUnknown’s Battleground (PUBG). Moreover, The hackers somehow accessed the company’s wallet and redistributed the tokens to the accounts that not yet tracked.
Police conducted simultaneous operations in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Afyonkarahisar, Bursa, Edirne, Bolu, and Antalya. Through which the police arrested 24 suspects. Eventually, with these raids, police were able to deliver 54,000 liras in cash. Also, 1.3 million lira’s worth of virtual money delivered to the company’s authorities.
After the completion of the legal procedures, two of the suspects released. Further, 22 referred to Istanbul Courthouse in Caglayan. Among which the court arrested six of them, while 16 others got bail on the condition of judicial control.
