AT&T – The First Mobile Network to Accept Crypto Payments

Once an enigmatic term in the digital world, cryptocurrencies have now become a go-to payment solution in various industries. Recently, many mainstream companies like  Facebook, Nike, Nordstrom, Home Depot, Starbucks, and others have stepped into crypto space. Following the trend, at present AT&T one of the largest mobile carriers in the United States has announced on May 23, 2019, that they now accept payments in form of cryptocurrency.

According to the announcement, AT&T customers will now be able to select BitPay as a payment option, allowing for bill payment in Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash. The telecom company had over 150 million subscribers in the Q4 2018.

Kevin McDorman, vice president, AT&T Communications finance business operations claims that,

“We’re always looking for ways to improve and expand our services. We have customers who use cryptocurrency, and we are happy we can offer them a way to pay their bills with the method they prefer.”

AT&T has made significant investments in its wireless infrastructure in an effort to aid mobile users, as it strives to retain customers and to offer the most technologically advanced network.

BitPay’s Chief Commercial Officer, Sunny Singh, said that AT&T led the way after that initial step: “AT&T did a great job making this happen.

With this, it seems that many users will start to take advantage of the new service. However, the move could indicate AT&Ts flexibility company and its interest in the crypto space as a whole.
